Marine Technician II

Salary: $25-$34/hour

We’re looking for year-round, full-time Certified Marine Technician II, a mid-level,  experienced marine technician who can diagnose issues and solve problems.

Duties & Responsibilities


  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair marine engines, transmissions and drivetrains, generators, stabilizers, electrical systems and electronics and common marine mechanical systems such as potable water systems and sanitation systems.
  • Planning and installation of the above-mentioned systems
  • Accurately and efficiently estimate projects
  • Effectively manage tasks/projects of up to 80 working hours, including time tracking, parts sourcing, and manager involvement as necessary.
  • Perform all work to ABYC standards
  • Inspect boats and create detailed list of issues, potential issues, or areas of non-conformity to ABYC standards, and create recommendations so that our customers can have a carefree boating experience.
  • Recommend and perform routine preventative maintenance, including fall decommissioning and spring commissioning processes
  • Sea trial boats
  • Maintain detailed records to document all work completed
  • Maintain leading-edge knowledge of all marine systems and technology and stay abreast of upcoming trends.
  • Be willing to attend trainings and seek out opportunities for gaining knowledge
  • Test and adjust systems to meet manufacturer’s performance specifications
  • Act as a technical resource for Marine Technicians I and offer training and suggestions to them
  • Be willing to do whatever is necessary to make sure that a customer is safe and out of harm’s way and then go the extra mile to make sure they are happy.
  • Be comfortable helping to haul, launch, and stand boats using a travel lift and hydraulic trailers
  • Be comfortable launching a boat at a boat ramp
  • Be comfortable using a wide range of shop tools and equipment
  • Maintain personal inventory of tools and organize tools to be prepared at the job site
  • Maintain a positive attitude and help create a positive and supportive work environment
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment
  • Have a sense of ownership and pride in your performance and its impact on team success

Qualifications & Requirements


Certifications

  • Two ABYC certifications required
  • Volvo Certification preferred
  • NMEA certification is a plus
  • HVAC certification is a plus

Career Experience

  • 5+ years of marine technician experience

Work Experience

The applicant MUST have experience working with the following:

  • Marine Diesel engines of many makes and models
  • Marine Generators
  • Marine transmissions, shafts, bearings, propellers and drives, of many styles and types
  • Marine electrical and electronic systems
  • Marine potable water systems
  • Marine black water and grey water systems
  • Marine heating and cooling systems and refrigeration systems
  • Stabilization systems
  • Physical Demands: Must have the ability to:
    • Climb ladders and stairs
    • Lift up to 50 pounds consistently
    • Get On/Off and move around boats of varying sizes
    • Willing to work outdoors in all conditions.
